Message You reach a point where the extra heat created requires more and more octane to keep it safe.
With small turbos, you can have a set up that allows 20 PSI with 100 octane, but going to 25 PSI with 109 or even 110 could detonate with even the same ignition timing.
Higher boost octane thresholds are more individual based on the efficiency of the system to handle the boost without creating back-pressure that makes the heat levels extreme.
Turbos with matching wheels on both sides do much better than turbos with smaller exhaust wheels than compressor wheels. Larger exhaust, Intercoolers and pipes makes a significant difference as well.
